How to Prepare for Dumpster Delivery

Clear the approach and the pad

Move vehicles, trailers, trash bins, basketball hoops and equipment. The truck needs a straight run of roughly 60 feet and cannot maneuver around obstacles the way a car can. Trim or note low locations; drivers will not risk a container against a limb or a service drop.

Choose the placement deliberately

Think about where debris is produced and how far you will carry it. Position the rear door toward the work so you can walk material in. On a slope, place the container across the grade rather than along it. Mark the exact spot with cones, chalk, or two boards.

Protect the surface

Ask for boards under the rails on asphalt, stamped concrete, or any surface you care about. Fresh asphalt in hot weather is the highest-risk surface; consider a gravel or street placement instead if the driveway is new.

Handle permits and notifications

If the container will sit on a public street, check with your municipality about a right-of-way permit; approval can take several business days. Tell your HOA if required, and give neighbors a heads-up when a shared drive is involved.

Plan the load before it starts

Set aside prohibited items in advance. Break down bulky furniture and cabinetry. Load flat, heavy items first along the floor, then fill upward. An organized container holds noticeably more than a randomly filled one.
